What does it mean when we call a photo session editorial?

According to the creatives at Adobe, "traditionally, editorial photography means the images that accompany an article in a publication. But editorial images can also exist on their own and imply a narrative or outline a creative concept."

For me, it means we're intentionally posing and styling you to look like you could be in a magazine. Editorial means you're open to creative poses that go beyond just holding hands and smiling at each other. You might embrace a variety of emotions, instead of just smiles. We might even have a theme or phrase the photoshoot is centered around to give us creative direction.

When you, as a couple, give me permission to go full Editorial, I will run and take it, because I absolutely LOVE the creativity I get to have with these sessions. Photographing in an editorial way isn't photographing cinematic like you're in a movie, and it's definitely not candid, but it's fun--- and I'm always very excited for my clients to see their photos when we approach them with an editorial flare.

I think the best thing about having photographed fashion and weddings is that it's given me a chance to know how to photograph both candidly and artistically. On a wedding day or during your engagement photos, I think there's a healthy balance of editorial and candid I bring to the space when it comes to your photos. When we approach your session in an editorial way, I think the only thing you need to do is trust the vision and trust that we might do silly things or move our bodies in funny ways. And that's okay. That's part of what editorial is. But if you want photos like these, then we can for sure make sure part of your session is dedicated to getting an Editorial look.

I took photos of Dennis and Joe about two years ago in Central Park and they used those photos for their engagement announcement! This year, they came back to New York City and reached out so we could plan another photoshoot-- this time, they told me I could do anything creatively. We decided on somewhat of a 60's/70's theme with rotary phones because Joe collects old phones... and then I got the Whitney membership, so I thought it might be fun to take photos at the Whitney Museum on their rooftop and stairs. I LOVE how it turned out and can't wait to shoot with them on their next NYC trip!

I'm the photographer behind Stine Creative! To my core I'm a New York City Lifestyle and Wedding Photographer who values you feeling seen and celebrated. You probably found me because you googled something specific like: romantic, artistic, candid, & cinematic New York CityPhotography. I'm so glad we found each other!

I'm a good fit if you're looking for both nostalgic, romantic, and candid vibes. I mainly work with clients who need: lifestyle portraits, artistic branding, elopement photography or Wedding Photography, romantic couples city photography, updated dating profile photos that will actually get you swipes, or candid in-home family photos.
