Photo Session Location(s): Remi43, 42nd Street, Grand Central Station,
Type of Photo Session: A real vibey midtown manhattan lifestyle urban portrait session.
NYC Portrait Session Cost: $775 for 90 Minutes; 30-40 Edited Photos
My Favorite Photo: The first photo; Seg looking up outside of Grand Central
Weather: Spitting rain; coldish
Editing Vibes: A bit of a brighter vibe inside the coffee shop and a moodier vibe outside in the gray weather. I edited all photos in both color and black and white. That's something you can add onto your session if you really love black and white photos.
I've been offering Airbnb Photography Experiences for almost five years now, and this is probably one of my favorite experiences I offer because it really gives my clients an array of urban photos--- flower shop, cafe vibes, city crosswalks and taxis?! Plus, a few photos outside of Grand Central at the end to cap it all off. It's both vibey and iconic. I can't say enough great things about Remi Flower and Coffee. They have grown so much as a coffee and flower shop-- they have a location in FiDi as well as two in Midtown near Grand Central!
This particular location at Remi43 is my favorite. The multi-tear space is not only teaming with green, but it's the perfect spot for some really unique dating profile photos or professional portraits. There are fresh flowers everywhere on every table-- and the Rose and Lavender Lattes also have edible flowers added! This place went viral on Instagram just a few years ago-- and now it's the backdrop for so many of my photo sessions. The team there is incredibly kind and I appreciate them allowing me to take photos there!
While the shop was incredibly busy when Segolene and I were taking photos, I dare you to find any patrons peppering the background of her photos-- she looks like she might be the only customer there. It's taken a long time for me to really figure out how to take great photos in busy places--- but in New York, and Remi in particular, I've really figured out the best angles and spots during rush hour. Seg looks like she's all alone!
I'll admit, sometimes, for the art's sake, it's important that we include the hoards of people! And you'll see especially out in the city, I included background players in photos. Although I have to point out that the crosswalk photo of Seg has no background players in the color version, and all the background players in the Black and White version. I want you to see the power of great Adobe Lightroom editing! Isn't that amazing how different those photos look? It's the same photo!
After 2024 ends, I won't be working with AirBnb Experiences any longer (It's been a good ride, AirBnb! I've grown as a business--- yay!---- and the AirBnb pricing structure no longer works for my business), you can still book this photography experience with me here on my website or on Instagram! And if you do book a photographer on Airbnb, just remember that Airbnb takes 20% of their income. Plus, their rates on Airbnb are probably much less than what they charge on their website because the average Airbnb user does not want to pay over $200 for an experience. I recommend finding that photographer on Instagram instead and booking with them off of AirBnb if you financially are able. If anything, I recommend giving them a great tip!
